Lake Mburo National Park

Located in Mbarara District, 3.5 hours drive from Kampala on an area of size 260 square kilometers. It contains a broad area of wetland. It has species of mammals including Impalas, Zebras, birds and Buffaloes. Bill storks’ specie of birds is only found here. . Its mosaic habitat, dry hillside, bushes, thickets, open and wooded savannahs, forests lakes and permanent swamps are home to

wildlife. It is the smallest of all the Uganda National Parks. There an area of relaxation for guests at the Lake.

Bird Watching

Lake Mburo National Park contains about 312 bird species including White-winged warbler, the rare Shoebill stork, Crested Francolin, Brown parrot, Red-necked Spur, Common quails, Emerald-spooted wood, African grey hornbill, Nubian wood pecker, Trilling Cisticola, Coqui Francolin, Southern red bishop and so much more

Tour Activities

Boat trips: Lake Mburo is well-to-do with a variety of animal and plant species which can only be seen clearly if you take a boat trip. The Hippopotamuses, crocodiles and birds like Pelicans, Heron, Fish Eagle, Black Crake, and Cormorant can also be sighted here.

Nature trails offers the tourist a possibility to be in awe of nature, they have chance to walk in the circuit at their pace in with an armed guide.

Forest walk in Rubanga Forest: This forest offer a diversity of supportive habitat for birds therefore a very eye-catching place for bird watchers with over 40 bird species recorded.

Fishing: Species of fish are found on Lake Mburo include Tilapia, mud fish, lung fish. Tourists can get a chance to catch fish using hooks.


It has three accommodation campsites including Mihingo Lodge, Mantana Luxury Teneted camp and tents at Rwonyo park head quarters.
